CONGRATULATIONS TOKevin Feng on winning the Boy's 16's Hudlow Summer Championship in July!  Kevin dropped only one set in cruising to the championship.  Good job, Kevin!

TAS announces affiliation with Paul Danielson

The Tennis Academy of the South is pleased to announce the affiliation of Paul Danielson with our tennis training programs. Paul is a native of Atlanta and is currently the Director of Tennis Operations at Blackburn Tennis Center.

Paul currently holds two specialized certifications with USPTA and USTA for Junior Competitive Player Development and Junior High Performance training.  In his 20+ years of junior development/ coaching he has worked with numerous State, Sectional and National ranked junior players from AL, AR, GA, KY, LA, NC and TN.  He is a coach for the USTA National Zonals and instructs with the USTA Player Development/Junior Training Camps for boys and girls. 

TAS is excited to have Paul involved with the academy as we know his experience and knowledge will benefit all TAS junior players.

The Tennis Academy of the South is proud to announce the addition of the Dartfish Video Analysis system as another tool to allow our coaches to improve our player's performance.

CONGRATULATIONS TO Allison Falkin for winning the Coca Cola ITF Junior Tournament in Castries, St. Lucia!   Allison did not drop a set in the tournament while defeating the number 2, 5, and 7 seeds in route to the title.  Way to go Allison!

CONGRATULATIONS TO Caroline Price (shown with Shelly Cochran, and doubles-partner Katherine White) for winning the girls 16 National Clay Court Doubles, finishing 5th in the singles, and winning the sportsmanship award for the tournament.  It shows a great deal about Caroline's play and more importantly, her character.  Way to go Caroline!

SALUTE TO:  Academy members Meg Voight and Andrew Clark will be playing tennis this fall for the Air Force Academy and West Point Military Academy.  Meg and Andrew have been highly ranked sectionally and turned down many tennis scholarship offers to attend their respective Academies.  In going to West Point Andrew will be coached by Jim Poling, former coach of Andrew Groslimond at Rollins College.  Please wish Meg and Andrew good luck when you see them at drills.

TAS COLLEGE RESULTS:  Congratulations to former TAS member Corey Yealy and the Washington University Men’s tennis team for winning the NCAA Division III men’s team title.  Also finishing strong this year was all conference member Shaun Bussert, a freshman at Ball State Univ. and Sawyer Duncan who finished his freshman year at Furman with a conference team championship, and a bid to the NCAA team tournament.

SOUTHERN SPRING CLOSED:  Congratulations to Academy juniors for a great effort in singles and doubles at the Southern Spring closed in Mobile, Alabama.  In singles competition Alex Howard won the boys 14, Henry Jang-Milsten was the boys 16 finalist, and Alex Clay was semi finalist girls 18. 

In doubles, Caroline Price won the girls 16 and under, Allison Falkin girls 18- 3rd place, Tyler Franks boys 18 - 4th place, Courtney Griffith girls 18 - 4th place, Henry Jang-Milsten boys 16 finalist, Mary Jeremiah girls 16 finalist, Peter Marcinkowski boys 18 - 4th place, and Allie Miller girls 14- 3rd place.  Way to go!

SPRING NATIONAL OPENS:  Congratulations to Alex Clay and Megan Kurey for winning the girls 18 and girls 16 and under doubles title and both finishing top 8 in singles.  In singles Ricky Doverspike came out of retirement to get to the semi-finals of the boys 18's singles and win the boys 18's doubles.  Alex Howard finished top 8 in the boys 14, and Nat Smiley was quarterfinalist in the boys 18.

CONGRATULATIONS TO Peter Marcinkowski, who will be playing tennis at Emory University this fall.  Peter has trained with Gery Groslimond and Solomon Demeke for over 5 years at TAS and has been highly ranked in both the Southern Region and National rankings.  He was sought by many Division I and III tennis programs this past year and was recruited and has decided to play for Emory University under John Browning.  Peter will study Pre-Med at Emory beginning fall of 2008.  Please wish Peter good luck when you see him at drills.

IT’S A TOUGH LIFE:  Former TAS member David Tillem has just finished his sophomore year playing no. 3 singles and no. 2 doubles for Georgetown University.  Earlier this year David represented the United States in the 11th Pan American Maccabi Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and to top the year off David received a grant from the Georgetown Business School to spend a summer internship in Hong Kong and Beijing, China.  Competitive tennis has been an integral part of David’s life, and we all wish him a great summer.

Congratulations to Recent College NLI Signees

Four TAS students signed their National Letter of Intent over the past few weeks.   Going on to continue their tennis careers in college are:  Richard Doverspike (University of Alabama), John Harden (University of Arizona), Andrew Seusserman (Kennesaw State University), and Justin Seusserman (Kennesaw State University).  These young men have grown up at TAS and we congratulate them for their hard work and success!

 


 

The Academy wants to know how juniors are doing in tournament competition.  Email the Academy whenever your junior wins a tennis tournament at any level.  In addition, e-mail the Academy when your junior competes in any National level tournament, Southern Championship, or Southern (Bullfrog) Designated.  Results and pictures will be posted on the homepage.
